Cogforged Potion Mechanics

Potions affect Cogforged—wild magic-imbued constructs—differently than normal creatures. Where normal creatures experience consistent effects, for Cogforged, consuming a potion triggers an unpredictable wild alchemical surge in their magical conduits, resulting in a Wild Alchemical Effect based on the potion’s essences.

Description

Long years of being a subject of alchemical experiments has caused couple adaptations in your internal structure.

  • You can create alchemical bases in your body requiring only water and organic matter.
  • You can spend a Rage charge to internally infuse a Decoction, consuming 2 Major + 1 Minor Reagents (gathered in downtime or awarded by DM as loot). Roll twice on the appropriate Major table and once on the Minor table. If both Major rolls match, you may choose the effect on that table.
  • Each effect scales based on the X Factor = Proficiency Bonus for major reagents and a contextual variable for minor reagents.

Frost crawls over your joints as your core hums with clinical precision—before suddenly locking up, gears grinding to a halt. Your plating blackens as if dipped in tar, shadows leaking from your vents like smoke. Your eyes dim to hollow pits, and a sickly oil drips from your fingers—sometimes pooling into grasping tendrils before retracting violently. Your body turns furnace-red, heat shimmer warping the air. Embers spit from your mouth, and flames geyser from your seams under pressure. Major X: Proficiency Bonus | Minor X: 2 × PB if below 50% HP, otherwise 1.

Your form flickers with golden static, limbs glitching like corrupted clockwork. Arcane code crackles across your surface, sometimes shorting out, sometimes casting shadows of spells. Major X: Proficiency Bonus | Minor X: Number of spells cast within 30 ft. since your last turn.
